Description
This is a super special piece. One of the first 1000 plus part molds I made in 2018. It was made in an @2000 part mold. The detail is intense. The cubic vocabulary goes through-and-through. The glaze is also remarkable. Several very thin layers of two different glazes that blended flawlessly. Browns, purples and blues.
My work is about the overall aesthetic, not so much about the ceramic. My work could only be made using the slipcasting method. The additive shell that builds up inside a plaster mold when the liquified clay is poured in (see my article on Slipcasting).
This piece had a small hole in the base of one of the barrels. A mold piece had dislodged during the pour (imagine 2000 pieces!!!) I sealed the inside of the barrel with commercial epoxy so the “vase” will hold water, which it does. The hole and patch are on the bottom, not visible.
